Future Flight credits

We’re pleased to advise that Future Flight credits are now available for use to book specific Virgin Australia products and services.

Use of your Future Flight credits is subject to the Future Flight Credit Terms of Use

For more information about your Future Flight credit, please select from the below list as to how your booking was originally made.

For bookings made with Virgin Australia, your Future Flight credit may be available to you in different ways.

  • If you made your original booking directly with Virgin Australia your Future Flight credit will have been provided to you in the form of a Virgin Australia Travel Bank. You should have received email confirmation of your Travel Bank details. Due to systems limitations, Travel Bank can only be used to hold credits under $5,000. If you have a Future Flight credit over this value, we will contact you shortly to let you know how you can access your credit.

  • If you had a Group booking or deposit with Virgin Australia, please contact the Virgin Australia Group Sales Team directly to make a future booking using any credit held.

  • If you made your booking via a travel agent, you will need to contact your agent for assistance.

If you have not received communication regarding your credit type, and you booked directly with Virgin Australia, please contact the Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89 for assistance.

Due to impacts related to COVID-19, the Tigerair Australia brand has been discontinued.

If you held a Tigerair credit, you have been issued with a Future Flight credit for use on Virgin Australia operated services for the value of your Tigerair Australia credit.

To use this credit, follow the details below regarding Future Flight credits.

If you have not received communication regarding your Future Flight credit, please contact our Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89, ensuring you have at least 3 of the following details handy to help our agents securely handle your credit.

  • Tigerair booking number

  • Date the booking was made

  • The total cost of the booking

  • The details of the flights booked

  • Names of other passengers on the booking

  • Passenger date of birth

Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and travel restrictions, we will be closing the VA Holidays business from 31 October, 2020. This includes Mystery Breaks, AFL Travel, Supercars Travel and Tigerair Travels packages.

If you held a booking or credit with Virgin Australia Holidays, a Future Flight credit for use on Virgin Australia operated services has been created for the value of your booking (less any cancellation fees where charged by a supplier).

To use this credit, follow the details below regarding Future Flight credits.

If you booked through a travel agent, you will need to contact your agent directly for assistance with any credit or bookings with Virgin Australia.

Virgin Australia is unable to make any changes to a booking that has been created by a travel agent. Any changes (including the use of credits supplied) need to be made directly with your travel agent unless your travel agent provides express authority for Virgin Australia to discuss the booking with you.

Please ask your agent to contact the Virgin Australia Industry Support Desk if you would like us to assist you with your Future Flight credits.

Understanding your Future Flight credit

Because Virgin Australia has been in voluntary administration, we are unable to provide a refund or Standard credit for cancelled flights or other services where the booking was made on or before 20 April 2020. However, we’re pleased to provide our guests with a Future Flight credit for these impacted services.

We appreciate it may be difficult to understand the differences between credit types and the fares available to book. The information below defines some of the terms we use on this page, and throughout the booking journey.

Future Flight credit

A type of credit provided to Virgin Australia guests - most likely, if your original flight booking was made on or before 20 April 2020 and has been cancelled or if you have a travel credit that was issued prior to this date(although Future Flight credits may be provided to guests in other circumstances as well).

Travel Bank

If you have made a booking directly with Virgin Australia , you may be issued with a Travel Bank which enables you to use your credit to make bookings online. This is referred to as the ‘form of payment’ when booking a flight.

Future Credit fare

A fare type only available to book using Future Flight credits, with specific fare rules that apply to your booking (such as your ability to change or cancel and the associated fees).

Frequently asked questions

Can I purchase flights or ancillaries using only part of the value of my Future Flight Credit?

Yes. You can pay using only a portion of your Future Flight credit (using a combination of Future Flight credit and credit or debit card) and retain the residual amount of your credit for future bookings.

Can I purchase a flight with my Velocity Points and my Future Flight credit?

No. You are not able to combine your Points and Future Flight credit to make a booking.

Can I combine my credits to pay for my booking?

You are not able to combine two different credits types i.e. Standard credit and Future Flight credit to pay for your bookings. However, if you have multiple Future Flight credit Travel Banks please contact the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89 for assistance.

What happens if I can’t find availability on my desired flight?

Bookings using your Future Flight credits are subject to seat availability within the fare class available for Future Flight credits on your selected flight. Please try and search a different date range, as it’s possible that the seats reserved for Future Flight credits may be sold out for the flight you’ve chosen. Alternatively, you may purchase your desired flight using another form of payment including your Velocity Points.

You can search our entire forward-booking window for availability in the seats reserved for holders of Future Flight credits. The forward-booking window is 331 days.

Can I use the Future Flight credit to book flights on Virgin Australia’s codeshare or interline partners?

Unfortunately, you’re unable to use your Future Flight credit with our codeshare and interline partners (including flights operated by Alliance Airlines). Your Future Flight credit can only be used on Virgin Australia operated flights.

Can my Future Flight credit be used to make a booking for another person?

Yes, you can make a booking for another person using your Future Flight credit. However, you cannot transfer the value of your credits to another person. For example, by adding your credits to the value of travel credits held by another person.

Can I request a refund if I want to cancel my existing booking?

Your options depend on when your booking was made. Because Virgin Australia has been in voluntary administration, we are unable to provide you with a refund if your original booking was made on or before 20 April 2020.  You will instead be provided with a Future Flight credit.

If you made your flight booking on or after 21 April 2020, and your fare type permits refunds, you can request a refund through our cancellation webform on virginaustralia.com until we return to using the Manage My Booking function for cancellations.

If you have paid for a booking using a Conditional credit or a Future Flight credit either in full or in part, you will be provided with a Future Flight credit, less any applicable cancellation fees, in the event that you choose to cancel your flight and your fare rules permit a cancellation.
