We’re pleased to advise that Standard credits are available for use to book specific Virgin Australia products and services.
Understanding your Standard credit
Standard credits may be provided to you if you cancel your booking which was made on or after 21 April 2020 and you are entitled to receive a credit under the rules of your fare or if we have cancelled your flight and you elect to receive a credit. If you booked directly with Virgin Australia, your Standard credit are issued in the form of a Travel Bank.
If you booked through a travel agent, your Standard credit is held by your travel agent who can book flights on your behalf.
We understand it may be difficult to understand the differences between credit types and the fares available to book. The information below defines some of the terms we use on this page, and throughout the booking journey.
A type of credit provided to Virgin Australia guests - most likely, if your original flight booking was made on or after 21 April 2020 (Standard credits may be provided to guests in other circumstances as well).
If you have made a booking directly with Virgin Australia, credits are held in a Travel Bank . This is referred to as the ‘form of payment’ when booking a flight.
Standard credit features
Valid for use on
Selected fares on all Virgin Australia operated flights and selected flights operated to and from Brisbane airport by Alliance Airlines for Virgin Australia.
Valid for Economy and Business class bookings, in all fare classes (except those reserved for Future Flight credits).
Valid for booking until the expiry date of each credit. Expiry dates can be viewed by logging in to your Travel Bank.
Can be used for any passenger/s (not limited to the passengers on the original booking).
Travel credit can be used over multiple bookings, and any residual amount remains valid for use until the credit expiry date.
Use for other products and services
Can be used to purchase Economy X, UpgradeMe, additional checked baggage and lounge experience passes (once available) or used as payment for Unaccompanied Minor or pet travel bookings.
Flight changes and cancellations by you
Changes and cancellations may be permitted as per fare rules.
Change or cancel to travel credit and we’ll waive the fees for travel up to 30 April 2022.*.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. You can pay using only a portion of your Standard credit (using a combination of Standard credit and credit or debit card) and retain the residual amount of your credit for future bookings.
You are not able to combine two different credits types i.e. Standard credit and Future Flight credit to pay for your bookings. However, if you have multiple Future Flight credit Travel Banks please contact the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89 for assistance.
Yes, you can make a booking for another person using your Standard credit. However, you cannot transfer the value of your credits adding to the value of travel credits held by another person.
