World famous sweet pineapple, ripe papaya, and locally caught fish, crab, prawn and lobster make Fiji renowned for its fresh produce turned lovingly-prepared dishes. As a result, Nadi has an almost unlimited supply of eateries. Local and international culinary delights can be found downtown, while a number of resort restaurants are held in high esteem.
With the Pacific Ocean and a number of lagoons lapping at Fiji’s west coast, seafood is in abundance and a notable speciality in Nadi.
10 minutes from Nadi airport, Denarau Island features some of Fiji’s most well know resorts and restaurants. On the marina, Port Denarau – a getaway the famous Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands – has a number of eateries that especially cater for tourists.
Most Mamanucas and Yasawa island group resorts cater for guests with several dining options. Many resorts offer full day or half day packages, while others feature renowned fine dining restaurants.
Although most Fijian hotels and resorts have shopping facilities on site, Nadi town is still a popular shopping destination. Nadi’s main street is dotted with a myriad of shops and service providers, and bustles with traffic and pedestrians.
Fijians are renowned for their handicrafts, particularly carved kava bowls, war clubs, cannibal forks, woven baskets, mats, pottery and masi cloth. Nadi Handicraft Center carries a great range of handicrafts, as well as clothing, leather goods, jewellery and black pearls. Nad's Handicrafts also stocks quality handicrafts alongside a good selection of Fijian pottery. While Nadi Handicraft Market – a collection of stalls on Queen's Road – sells unique woven pandanus baskets and traditional goods.
To escape the pace of downtown Nadi, a trip to Port Denarau is a good idea. As Denarau Island’s shopping mecca, the marina features a modern mall with well-known Fijian stores, a surf shop, two banks, a grocery and wine store, an ice-cream parlour, and several restaurants.
