Beyond its striking landscape and bright blue skies, Perth hosts a number of lively precincts, pulsating with varied dining and nightlife scenes.

Perth’s compact city centre is alive with a number of dining opportunities. Grouped around the northern banks of the Swan River, inner-city pockets host vibrant dining zones, which act as great meeting places.

King Street is Perth’s most talked-about high street, where boutiques and flagship stores co-exist with a number of gourmet and low-key eateries. Murray and Hay streets also combine retail therapy with food, abuzz with busy locals and tourists. Cafes and restaurants abound on the riverfront, packed on a Friday night and into the weekend with food lovers indulging in the city’s biggest range of eateries.

Great dining opportunities are not just limited to the Perth’s city centre. Subiaco’s Rokeby Road and Hay Street host a range of eateries to please all budgets and palates. Northbridge has a very active nightlife – William, James, Aberdeen and Parker streets all brim with restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs.

Leederville’s Oxford Street has a great cafe culture, and a multicultural mix of eateries and pubs. Mount Lawley’s Beaufort Street is a hip dining precinct, with a number of reputable restaurants. Claremont’s Bayview Terrace and St Quentin Avenue are known their coffee.

Marine Parade in Cottesloe is busy by day with beach-goers enjoying fish and chips, and into the night with fine-dining restaurants serving meals overlooking the Indian Ocean. While Fremantle, a fishing port steeped in history, is well renowned for its seafood restaurants.

As one of Australia’s wealthiest cities, Perth enjoys an indulgent and thriving retail scene of luxury brands and upmarket fashion labels.

Perth’s city centre houses two major shopping malls, and a whole host of retail-focused streets. Free from traffic, Murray Street Mall and Hay Street Mall provide relaxing yet exciting retail environments, with a wide variety of speciality stores. King Street is Perth’s most stylish and affluent shopping street, hosting international labels, alongside local designers. Wesley Quarter and One40William also offer high-end retail and art; while Harbour Town is the city’s go-to for designer labels with heavily discounted price tags.

Designer labels galore can also be found outside the city centre, in the inner western suburb of Subiaco. Renowned for its attractive array of shopping alternatives, Subiaco hosts a great mix of well-known and unique fashion outlets, such as The Colonnade and Claremont Quarter, while Rokeby Road and Hay Street feature a wonderful range of boutiques and showrooms.

Further out suburbs like Mount Lawley and Inglewood offer an eclectic array of boutiques, covering everything from thrift shopping to couture. While neighbouring towns like Karrinyup, Booragoon, Freemantle and Morley all house major retail centres, catering for even the most discerning shopper’s needs.

As an exciting alternative to shopping in the city and the suburban shopping centres, Perth and surrounding towns also host a large selection of weekly markets. Selling a wide variety of goods including fresh fruit and vegetables, clothes, antiques, jewellery, and arts and crafts, markets in Subiaco, Fremantle, E Shed, Galleria, Gosnells, Midland, Canning Vale, Scarborough Fair and Wanneroo are all worth a visit.
