Visitors to Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) will cross a vast riverbed landscape created from over 100 tonnes of rock, when ‘Water’ opens from 7 December 2019 to 26 April 2020.
Riverbed 2014 is an ambitious work by internationally acclaimed artist Olafur Eliasson that has to be seen to be believed.
From major immersive experiences to smaller-scale treasures by Australian and international artists, ‘Water’ will highlight this precious resource and spark conversations on the environmental and social challenges faced by the world today.
Visitors can absorb Angela Tiatia’s artwork measuring the rising tide, see predator and prey drink together from a vivid blue waterhole in Cai Guo-Qiang’s Heritage 2013 and reflect on the on the long cultural traditions of the Brisbane River with artist Judy Watson.
Also featured is William Forsythe’s interactive sculpture The Fact of the Matter 2009 – a cloud of gymnastic rings that asks us to consider new ways to move and work together to meet the challenge of climate change.
