At 180 years young, the Hunter Valley is arguably the birthplace of Australian wine and certainly one of Australia’s most revered wine regions. But it’s no museum piece. It is a sophisticated, interesting and dynamic place with ‘real’ people characterised by a special tenacity, passion and wisdom that comes from a rich history. It's a fascinating area that brims with over 150 top-class wineries, 65 indulgent restaurants and many places to stay as well as gourmet produce, boutique breweries, championship golf course, day spas and many special experiences.
Famous for food and wine, the Hunter Valley has also made a name for producing some of the most spectacular events. There are festivals celebrating the lush local produce, such as Lovedale Long Lunch and concerts featuring the world’s top musicians. A smooth medley of both local produce and relaxing music is created at Jazz in the Vines and Opera in the Vineyards.
Just a short drive from the valley toward the coast, revel in the vibrant cosmopolitan hub of Newcastle with a busy working harbour at its heart and a string of golden beaches stretching north and south. In under 2 hours’ drive you could also relax beside the aqua waterways of Port Stephens, and take in a dolphin or whale watching cruise as you delight in freshly caught seafood and waterside dining.
