Parrtjima - A festival in light
Parrtjima, Australia's only Aboriginal-inspired light festival, combines traditional painting with state-of-the-art light shows, creating a truly unique experience.
The third annual Parrtjima – A Festival in Light event takes place in Alice Springs from Friday, 28 September to Sunday, 7 October 2018.
Parrtjima (pronounced pah-chee-ma) is the only authentic Aboriginal light festival of its kind and showcases the oldest continuous culture on earth through the newest technology, on a 300-million-year-old natural canvas.
Parrtjima is hosted by the Arrernte community who are the traditional owners of Alice Springs. As well as their own art, the festival features amazing artwork from across the Central Desert region and associated parts of the Northern Territory
Parrtjima has evolved to become much more than a light show as it tells amazing interactive stories of the art through light installations but also allows access to interaction with artists and local custodians throughout the installations, showcases ten nights of music, film and public discussion.
