Adding to Adelaide already excellent dining character, the city and surrounds host a number of spectacular annual culinary showcases.

The city’s celebrated food scene is championed by a number of permanent culinary stewards that have put Adelaide firmly in the foodie spotlight. 

The iconic 143-year-old Adelaide Central Market famously dishes up gourmand delights and hosts cooking demos. Thoroughfares like Rundle, Hutt, O’Connell, Melbourne and Leigh Streets and King William and Unley Roads are renowned as red-hot dining precincts. While Gouger Street boasts a reputation as the “United Nations” of restaurants and cafés.  

Complementing its exceptional food scene, the city also claims fame as Australia’s wine capital. More than 200 cellar doors dot surrounding districts like Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra, operating from some of the county’s most renowned vineyards and wineries.

The Adelaide Food & Wine Festival is touted as one of the most exciting and appetising way to experience South Australia's food and wine culture. From 4–13 April, various quirky and original events will be held across the city, showcasing a grass-roots collaboration of chefs, producers, winemakers, brewers, cider makers and traders.

One of the country’s most influential and best-attended food festivals, Tasting Australia comes to town from 27 April to 4 May, with a special focus on youth activities, regional experiences and the arts, served with an amazing range of hands-on foodie experiences. The festival is famously championed by local celebrity chef, Maggie Beer, who is set to host a true Barossa-style long table lunch. 

Nearby Kangaroo Island is also preparing to spruik the merits of local food and wine, with five day gastronomic celebration, The Kangaroo Island FEASTival. Kangaroo Island’s best local chefs will team up with renowned food gurus like Matt Moran and Margaret Fulton, from 24–28 April, to present a degustation of more than 15 extraordinary dining events.
