Discover Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs
Mingle with celebrities and shop for high-fashion in Double Bay.
Extending from Watsons Bay in the north to Botany Bay in the south, the area flanks Sydney City with vibrant beachside locales and cosmopolitan harbourfront neighbourhoods.
The beach is the Suburbs’ poster child, and for good reason, as visitors and locals are spoilt for choice with more than 20 to choose from.
The most famous of which, Bondi Beach is icon of Australian culture. Definitely Sydney, its sweeping moon-shaped bay sees crashing surf meet white sands, fringed by a pulsating strip of cafes, restaurants, bars and boutiques. Explore the activity of Bondi Pavilion. Meet the world-famous Bondi Rescue lifeguards. Shop Gould Street. Or sit back and take in uninterrupted views with a cocktail in hand at Icebergs Dining Room and Bar.
South of Bondi, sheltered by high cliffs, the small beach oasis of Tamarama (coined Glamarama) holds a reputation as a hangout for Sydney’s ‘beautiful people’ and as a surfers’ haven. To the south again, Bronte Beach is popular family haunt, home to a sheltered natural pool and grassy barbeque area. Rounding out the Suburbs’ most popular beaches, Coogee fosters an energetic vibe, skirting the Pacific Ocean with a lively promenade and grand old ocean baths.
Take in the beauty and activity of the Eastern Suburbs’ beaches on the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk. Hugging the coastline for six kilometres, the track exposes walkers to stunningly scenic vistas, and allows for swim and cafe pit stops.
Water is also a striking and defining element of the Eastern Suburbs’ inner and most exclusive enclaves. Affluent hubs like Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay, Rose Bay and Vaucluse border the harbourfront, boasting some of Sydney's finest views and most expensive houses.
Watch the seaplanes take off and land at Rose Bay. Mingle with celebrities and shop for high-fashion in Double Bay. Take in the action of the Yacht Club at Rushcutters Bay Marina. Or window shop for million-dollar mansions in Woollahra and Vaucluse – two of Australia’s most expensive residential neighbourhoods.
Bordered by Woollahra, at the heart of the Eastern Suburbs, Centennial Park is Sydney’s favourite green space. Covering 220 hectares, the Park is an inner-city playground of walking trails, equestrian facilities, grand avenues, historic buildings, lakes and groves. Neighbouring Centennial Park, Moore Park is also a popular hotspot for recreation, home to the world-famous Sydney Cricket Ground and Australia’s Fox Studios complex.
At the southern tip of the Eastern Suburbs’ reach sits one of Australia’s most historical significant destinations, Botany Bay. The site of James Cook and the First Fleet’s arrival on the continent of Australia, Botany Bay marks the beginning of European settlement in Australia.
