Unassuming and unpretentious, No Name Lane lives its moniker. The café is touted to serve the best coffee on the Gold Coast and pulls all it off with excellent service. The décor is subtle, the atmosphere is relaxed and a simple menu of sandwiches and light meals are on offer to complement the coffee.

Coffee Alchemy | Marrickville, Sydney 

Coffee Alchemy is a firm favourite among Sydney bean-hunters. Roasting its own beans and void of any kind of food offering, Coffee Alchemy proudly carries a reputation as an espresso bar. Speciality coffee of the highest grade and estate is the name of the game – recently harvested, often hand-picked and meticulously prepared. 

Bayleaf Cafe | Marvell Street, Byron Bay 

Slightly removed from Byron’s main hustle and bustle, Bayleaf is a small and rustic bohemian café that cups excellent coffee amid a casual atmosphere. Serving as the retail outlet for local outfit, Marvell Street Coffee Roasters, Bay leaf Cafe knows its coffee, and employs well-educated baristas who are on hand to share coffee wisdom and advice.

ONA Coffee House | Fyshwick, Canberra

ONA roast, wholesale and perfect their craft on a daily basis. Hip without being pretentious, unlike other ‘hardcore’ coffee connoisseurs, ONA does not discriminate against those who like their coffee a certain way. Located in industrial Fyshwick, the coffee hotspot complements its surrounds with a trendy interior of exposed brick and light bulbs, blackboards and coffee paraphernalia.

Vincent the Dog | Carlton, Melbourne 

Vincent the Dog is a modest establishment with a reputation for serving consistently good coffee and honest food. The cafe’s namesake, Vincent, can be found behind coffee machine, cupping up a selection of blends, to be enjoyed along with boutique bagels, sandwiches, muesli, fruit plates and bite-sized cakes.

Cartel Coffee Roasters | Breakwater, Geelong 

Cartel Coffee Roasters is dedicated to providing wild, unique, rare and cool specialty grade coffees and teas. Owner Nathan Johnston imports more than 40 beans from around the globe and supplies coffee to restaurants across Australia. The coffee hotspot is not only ranked as Geelong’s best, but is also hyped to be the number one café in Australia. 

Tasmania

Pigeon Hole Cafe | West Hobart, Hobart 

A cosy space with a rustic feel, Pigeon Hole Cafe is renowned for serving flawless coffee and Hobart’s best loaves. On any given day, the cafe’s seats are filled with a cultured crowd, buried in books and laptops, sipping macchiatos brewed from a silver La Marzocco espresso machine and served by friendly and humble staff. 

Amelia Espresso | Launceston CBD, Launceston 

Amelia Espresso offers ethically-purchased and locally-roasted coffee amid a beautifully welcoming atmosphere. Working as the cafe’s barista, owner Amelia inspires community spirit, encouraging guest to enjoy their coffee with locally-made cakes, chocolates and baked goods, or BYO lunches at the café’s large communal table centrepiece. 

South Australia

The Coffee Barun | Sefton Park, Adelaide 

The Coffee Barun is one of South Australia’s most loved coffee identities. Owner Mark Barun sources from seasonal micromill and microlots, to offer a boutique selection of beans, which changes regularly. The coffee is complemented by a food menu rich with local produce, the walls are decorated with local art, and the baristas are approachable and well-informed.  

Western Australia

Standing Room Only | Perth CBD, Perth 

Standing Room Only (pictured) is a true espresso bar. No food is served on premise and there is not a seat in sight. The space exudes a distinct European charm  guest shot espresso at the bar while chatting to baristas with well-honed skills. The coffee is roasted by Rockingham local, Five Senses Coffee and is crafted by one of the world’s most expensive coffee machines, a custom-built sky-blue Synesso.  

Northern Territory

All About Coffee and Tea | Parap, Darwin 

All About Coffee and Tea is a cafe connoisseur’s haven. On top of cupping award-winning coffee and teas, the boutique outlet also sells machines, china and gadgets galore. Guests can take a hands-on approach to their daily cup, by selecting and self-grinding their beans themself.  A variety of beans is on offer, and rotated daily and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
