Before you fly

We understand that things can slip through the cracks when you're busy planning your trip. Here's our handy checklist to have a hassle-free journey.

General life admin     

  • When does your passport expire? Have six months’ validity or more? All good for take-off.     

  • Have you arranged for someone to feed the pets while you’re away?     

  • Do you need travel vaccinations? Check smartraveller.gov.au and get jabs before you go.        

  • Have all the necessary travel visas? Check with the countries you’re visiting for visa requirements.        

  • Have you made it official and set your out-of-office email?

Booking your ticket  

  • Flying with a guest comfort device? Call ahead to arrange the right seat.         

  • Toddler over two? They’ll need a ticket. Baby on board? Request an in-flight bassinet when booking.         

  • Vegetarian, gluten-free or vegan? Select a special meal when booking a long-haul international flight.        

  • Need to hire a car? Earn Velocity Points with our partner Car Trawler.         

  • Have a motorised wheelchair or mobility aid? Complete a Special Service Request Form online.*

Packing your bags

  • Are all of your spare/loose batteries and power banks packed in your carry-on? Yes? Good to go.         

  • Travelling with a smart bag or lithium/non-spillable batteries? Check virginaustralia.com for what can be packed or taken on board^.        

  • Have you packed your phone charger and travel adaptor?        

  • Does your carry-on meet size requirements? Check fare rules.         

  • Do you have the cap for any aerosol cans? No? Leave them behind.

Just before take-off

  • Jetting off overseas? Make sure all the liquids in your carry-on baggage are under 100ml.        

  • Flying with a tot on your lap? They’ll need to wear a lap belt, which cabin crew are happy to provide.         

  • Do you have a copy of your itinerary on hand?    

  • Have you downloaded or updated our free Virgin Australia Entertainment app?

  • Do you have your earphones to enjoy free In-flight Entertainment?
