In Short

Las Vegas, it appears out of nowhere – a glittering strip of casinos, wedding chapels and debauchery in the middle of the desert.

Known as Sin City, the metropolis is a favourite haunt for gamblers, party-goers and tourists looking to be wowed. And wowed they are… Hotels soar into the sky, mimicking some of the world’s most famous landmarks. Fountains dance, choreographed to classical music and light shows. Dining

Be prepared to gain a few kilos while visiting Las Vegas, the thriving metropolis sure knows how to put on a spread! Sin City hosts one of America's hottest restaurant markets.

Celebrity chefs like Wolfgang Puck, Michael Mina, Joël Robuchon, Guy Savoy, Charlie Trotter and Gordon Ramsey all helm establishments in The Strip's top casinos.

Brazilian steakhouses, French bistros, sushi trains, Chinese eateries, Mexican cantinas and Italian trattorias are packed into every nook and cranny of the desert city’s grid. Popular fast-food chains, all-American favourites and coffee houses line the streets.

Room service allows for breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed. While the city’s all-you-can-eat buffets are institutions, and must be experienced to be believed.

Outside of gambling, drinking is Las Vegas’s favourite pastime. Very few towns in the United States are as open to drinking as Sin City.

The drinks flow free when gambling at the casinos – often served by scantily-clad hostesses. The law permits drinking in public, and many holidaymakers choose to wander The Strip with a giant novelty cups in hand.

Bars pockmark the city, and can be found on rooftops, by pools, in lobbies and cloaked under demure disguises. Nightclubs are big business, in particular venues like Tao, 1 Oak, Tryst, Chateau, XS and Pure, which attract a who’s who of the world’s rich and famous.

Shopping

Catering perfectly to a tourist crowd and to those with a penchant to spend big, Vegas is a shopper’s paradise.

Most big name casinos have ample retail opportunities on-premise. The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace particularly stand out, hosting more than 160 boutiques and shops – ranging from H&M to Louis Vuitton – amid a Romanesque setting. Via Bellagio within Bellagio is a high-end shopper’s haven, which see the world’s biggest fashion houses, such as Dior, Chanel, Hermes and Gucci, all jostle for prime boutique real estate.

Grand Canal Shops at The Venetian offer more than 46,000 square metres of unique retail space themed to resemble Venice’s streetscape. Like Bellagio, Wynn offers shopping opportunities tailored to meet the needs of the affluent, with one very ostentatious addition, a Ferrari-Maserati showroom.

Shopping opportunities also abound outside the casinos. Malls like Town Square, Fashion Show, Hawaiian Marketplace and Crystals all offer top name brands on The Strip. While off The Strip centres like Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Premium Outlets are must-visits for bargains.
